The Constitution (Satversme) of the Republic of Latvia was adopted in 1922, but after the Soviet Occupation in 1940, it had been cancelled. It has been renewed and is in force again.
The law in Latvia comes into force, or becomes valid after 100 members of the Parliament (the Saeima) have approved it. The President is the Head of State, who is elected by the Saeima for 4 years. The President is choosing the Prime Minister, who shall be approved by the Saeima and who shall govern the Cabinet of Ministers that consists of 18 ministers.
