Communcation

Today there are six major operators in the public telecommunication market in Latvia - public telephone network operator “Lattelecom” Ltd and “Triatel” Ltd that delivers fixed telephone service and mobile network operators “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons” Ltd., “TELE2” Ltd., “Bite Latvija” Ltd. and “ZetCOM” Ltd. that are working in GSM 900 and GSM 1800 standards.

Postal service

In the postal sector, there are State joint stock company “Latvijas pasts” and some other companies providing postal and courier services. There are post offices (signposted ‘Pasts’) in all inhabited places across the country. Opening hours at main post offices are from 08.00 (07.00) - 19.00 (18.00) on working days and from 08.00 - 16.00 on Saturdays. Opening hours for sub post offices in small villages vary a great deal.

Postage
Postcards and ordinary letters can be posted in post boxes located in different public spaces and inside post offices. They are usually fixed to walls and are recognizable by their bright yellow color. Registered and insured letters can be sent from post offices.

Constant Internet connections - 24 hour, high-speed internet connection for a fixed price, irrespective of the time spent on the net or the amount of data transmitted.
Dial-up connection - this service better suits those users who use internet infrequently. The cost of the dial-up service depends on the amount time spent on the net.

Internet cafes are very common in cities and especially popular among youngsters. Their costs start from LVL 0.50 Many hotels provide free internet access to guests and internet access can also be accessed at business centres. Wireless connections can be found in many public spaces - cafes, hotels, stations etc.
