
The national currency of Lithuania is called the Litas. The Litas is abbreviated as LTL. The currency was first issued by the Bank of Lithuania in October 1922. The smaller unit is called the Cent, 1 lit = 100 centas. The lit is pegged to the EURO at 1 EUR = 3.4528 LTL. Foreign currencies can be easily exchanged in banks and exchange offices.
Credit cards
Major credit cards are widely accepted and ATM machines can be found in most banks and hotels, but are rare in smaller towns. There are numerous currency exchange kiosks in the capital Vilnius and travelers’ cheques can be cashed at some banks.
Traveller’s Cheques
The most accepted traveler’s cheques in Lithuania are Amex, Thomas Cook and Eurocheque and can be cashed at banks.
Banking Hours
Banks are open from Monday to Thursday between 8.00 and 17.00, Friday, Saturday 08.00 – 15.00. On Sundays Banks are closed. Currency exchange offices are open from Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 18.00 hours; on Saturdays from 09.00 to 15.00 hours. Some are also open on Sundays.
